Avon Engineering was founded by David Lowery in 1984 and at that time, located in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada. In 2006, the company was acquired by Bushman Equipment to expand their product offering of custom designed below-the-hook lifting equipment and floor based material handling equipment.

Xtek, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA acquired Avon Engineering in December of 2011. Both Avon Engineering and Xtek have built their businesses on providing custom engineered products utilized by heavy industry. The combination of the mechanical and metallurgical engineering strengths, backed by state of the art manufacturing and heat treating provides a broader span of products and services.

Avon Engineering actively participates in technical organizations such as the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Overhead Traveling Cranes Technical Committee (CSA Standard B167), Crane Manufactures Association of America (CMAA) Crane Technical Committee (CMAA Specification No. 70), and the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) Subcommittee No. 6.

Our products and inspection services are in full compliance of the following standards:

  • Designs of our below-the-hook lifting equipment is in conformance with ASME Specifications B30.20 and BTH-1
  • Our engineers and inspectors adhere to Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments, Reg. 851, Section 51 (1)
  • Welders are certified to Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) W47.1 and W59 standards
  • Electrical Controls are in compliance with CSA C22.2 standard
